CHAIRING POOL NOMINATION PROCESS

Dear PAI member,

The 2021 PAI General Assembly will be held virtually on Tuesday, 31 August 2021.

As has been communicated before, this means that there will be some divergence from some of the provisions of the current Standing Orders.

Section 3.3 of the Standing Orders states that the Chairing Pool will be elected prior to the first plenary session of the conference by simple majority of delegates of full member organisations.

Given all the voting in the General Assembly shall be done virtually, we will ask you, the members, to nominate representatives for the l, after which, we shall place your nominees on the voting platform and open it up for voting. will commence today and close on Monday, 17 May 2021

Section 3.2 of the Standing Orders states that the Chairing Pool shall consist a minimum of 6 people, and at least 50{3fdafa6600736e9ffa07197573586d5f42f25809519cbebbd828916dae447a7e} of its members shall be women. All members of the chairing pool shall be from registered members and the Chairing Pool will include one person from the host organisation.

Since there is no host organisation for this General Assembly, the Chairing Pool shall consist of 6 people from across the continent. To cater for membership representation, and the number of member organisations we have in each region, we shall select 1 person from West Africa, North Africa, Central Africa, Southern Africa each, and 2 people from East Africa.

Section 3 of the Standing Orders state the responsibilities of the Chairing Pool.

Given the change in circumstances for this General Assembly, the responsibilities of the Chairing Pool will be as follows.

  1. Manage and ensure the smooth running of the General Assembly.
  2. Ensure that the business of the General Assembly is completed.
  3. Take minutes for the plenary sessions of the General Assembly.
  4. Decide the order in which proposals, recommendations and other agender items shall be dealt with at each plenary session of the General Assembly.
  5. Present the order of business to the plenary of the General Assembly.

You may nominate yourself or someone from your region.

The Chairing Pool will be announced on Monday 7 June 2021
